Empowering Youth in Scouting Adventures

In collaboration with Scout Gear, Scouts Canada is pleased to announce the launch of the Scout Gear Adventure Fund (SGAF). Thanks to their generous support, the SGAF is set to create exciting opportunities for our young members aged 11-26 to embark on life-changing adventures that will shape their character, build lifelong skills, and create unforgettable memories.

The Scout Gear Adventure Fund is all about ensuring that financial constraints don't stand in the way of youth members experiencing the incredible adventures that Scouting has to offer. We firmly believe that every young person should have the chance to explore the world, challenge themselves, and grow through unique and enriching experiences. That's why this fund has been created – to provide a "hand up" to those who aspire to participate in adventures that last 5 days or longer. 

This program is designed to empower Scouts by reducing financial barriers while fostering a sense of responsibility and adventure. Frequently Asked Questions

The Scout Gear Adventure Fund is designed to provide financial assistance to support young people in experiencing life-impacting adventures within Scouting. It serves as a "hand up," aiming to reduce financial barriers while expecting fundraising and family contributions to cover most costs. 

Funding assistance is available for registered members of Scouts Canada aged 11-26. To qualify, youth must be actively registered in MyScouts at the time of the adventure. 

Funding is provided for adventures that last for 5 days or longer. Eligible adventures include Canadian or International Jamborees, Moot, Roverway, Scouts Canada summer camps, stand-alone youth or Group events, and expenses associated with volunteering at international events like Kandersteg International Scout Centre. 

A team of youth and adult Scouts Canada volunteers, collectively known as the Scout Gear Adventure Fund Review Committee, will review and score all eligible applications. Applications will be evaluated based on the quality and uniqueness of the adventure, opportunities for youth growth, trip plan, and budget. 

There are two parts to the application. Part 1 must be completed by the Group Commissioner and Part 2 must be completed by the youth and attached as a Word document/PDF. You can access the application form by clicking here

Yes, a simple post-adventure report is required. It should include photos and a short description of the adventure, highlighting some memorable moments and lessons learned. This report must be submitted by October 31 of the adventure year. More details will be provided ahead of receiving your funding. 

All information submitted in the application is considered confidential and will be treated as such by the Scout Gear Adventure Fund Review Committee. Approved applications may be asked to recognize the contributions made by the Scout Gear Adventure Fund, and parents of youth recipients may be requested to approve the release of their child's name.
